What is Photography?

Picture
To me it can mean one thing, to you, it could be the complete opposite.  Photography, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. A photo should evoke thought, inspiration, emotion, debate.  If it does, then the photographer has done his/her job.

A photograph is a fragment of time frozen and never to be repeated. It has the power to recall memories in an instant; even if the image hasn’t been seen for years.  It can thrill or disgust.  It can move you to tears or inflame hatred.  It can raise a smile, a blush, a frown.  It can liberate and humiliate.  Such is the power of a photograph.

An image, let’s say of rolling countryside topped with big white fluffy clouds, will appeal to different people in differing ways.  Some will love it and wish they were there, some will admire it and move on to the next photo, others will give it no more than a cursory glance; instantly forgetting its existance.

I hope the images contained in the galleries stir you in some way as they did when I took them.

I have been into photography, in a serious way, for about 4 years after buying  my first DSLR camera, a Canon EOS 400D.  I now use a Canon EOS 40D with various lenses and am still learning the finer points of image taking………and quite a few of the basics too!!

I live on the East coast in the UK and have been seriously into photography for about 4 years. Still learning (as my photos will show) but getting there slowly. I hope to one day capture the perfect photo but, knowing my luck, I'll be looking in the opposite direction!!
